THE HISTORY OF PRESSING IRON

Prior to the invention of Electric Pressing Iron by Henry W. Seely in  1882, 19 year old Mrs Mary Florence Potts invented the first flat iron, also called the Sad Iron in 1870. It was put over a fire or stove to be heat up.
It was called the Sad Iron because of it's heavy weight and the heat on it's handle.
