Christine Jorgensen was the first person who publicly announced that she had gone through sex reassignment surgery in the 1950s.
Born George William Jorgensen on May 30, 1926, she felt she was trapped in the wrong body.
During a short career in the millitary, Christine came across an article on experimental gender therapy by Christian hamburger Christine became interested in it and contacted the doctor.
After the surgery Christine wrote a letter to her parents with the words:
"Nature made a mistake which I have had corrected, and now I am your daughter"
