HISTORY OF THE AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINE (ATM)

A Scottish gentleman, John Shepherd -Barron devised the idea of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) when he arrived at the bank after it had closed for the day and was unable to withdraw any money.
His inspiration was the candy dispensing machine, he pitched his idea to the Barclay's Bank and the bank accepted his pitch.
The first ATM in the world made it's debut on June 27, 1967 at a branch of the Barclay's bank in Enfield, North London.
