ORIGIN OF SOAP

Roman Legend has it that soap derives its name from Mount Sepo, a place where animals were sacrificed. The Legend states that wood ash from the burning of the animals and animal fat would wash into the Tiber river bank when rain falls. women who visited the river bank to wash realized that whenever rain fell, clothes were cleaner when they washed them in certain parts of the river bank. Soap was first used largely by the Babylonians around 2800BC to wash wool for textile production. although, Babylonians were known for their good hygiene, in medieval London, bathing was a luxury which only royal families indulged in a little more often than commoners. this contributed to a large extent to the high number of casualties during the black plague in London, which started in 1348. The plague originated from China and it was carried by rats and fleas
